Looking
for a new way to spark your creativity but you don’t have a
desire to become the next Drew Carey? Is your corporate “team”
really more of a group of individuals than a true team? Or are you
just looking for a fun event for you, your friends and/or co-workers
to do that’ll be more stimulating than duck-pin bowling? Then
perhaps an improvisation workshop is just the thing for you.
Jim has been performing comedy improvisation since he was in High
School in the early 80’s and has performed, literally, 1000’s
of shows since. He’s been an instructor for public, corporate
and private workshops for almost 10 years while performing with the
comedy improv group ComedySportz in Washington, DC. He’s taught
at ClubMed Hualtulco, Mex. and St. Lucia, V.I.. Additionally Jim has
taught improvisation at High School and Middle School theatre festivals
around the DC/Baltimore area and is currently a resident instructor
at the Actors Center
in Philadelphia.
Bringing this experience with him Jim helps you to rekindle your own
creativity while showing you how to add to other's ideas to create
a positive, team environment. Often we find ourselves in a pattern
of non-acceptance and resistance towards other people's ideas. We
feel that in order to be noticed and appreciated we must overshadow
the other person’s ideas with our own. We may even find ourselves
trying to compete for the attention of the powers that be. This behavior
can cause us to miss out on potentially profitable ideas because of
in-fighting and a self-minded attitude. However, this is not a necessary
part of your or any company’s method of operation.
Using improvisational “games” and exercises Jim can help
to break that pattern and replace them with new, more positive ones
which will enable the student to express their own ideas while still
allowing room for others to do the same. Using a “yes and…”
rather than a “yes, but…” vocabulary your team will
learn that usually the best and fastest way to get to the top is to
add on to what has been offered rather than to destroy, clear and
start again from scratch. They will learn that teamwork really can
highlight their own strengths and allow everyone else to shine.
Contact Jim so that he can customize a
workshop tailored to your company’s specific needs from teambuilding
to creativity.
